Breaking Down Barriers to Improve Patient Clinical Trial Participation

I am excited to collaborate on a webinar next month with Pia Banerjee, PhD, Director of Cancer Innovation & Transformation at the American Cancer Society, and Mark Fleury, PhD, Principal of Policy Development, Emerging Science at the American Cancer Society. This session will focus on breaking down barriers to care and improving patient participation in clinical trials. By addressing these obstacles, we can increase patient enrollment in trials, leading to better treatment options and improved cancer care for all.

Understanding Barriers to Care

Barriers to care affect anyone with cancer and stem from a variety of factors, including financial, logistical, systemic, and psychological challenges. Most patients will encounter at least one of these hurdles during their journey.

One of the biggest obstacles is cancer illiteracy—many patients are unprepared for a cancer diagnosis and unaware of the value of clinical trial participation. Yet, these trials often pave the way for the next breakthrough in cancer treatment.

Key Barriers to Care

  • Awareness and Education
  • Financial Barriers
  • Logistical Challenges
  • Underserved Communities
  • Enrollment Process

In our webinar, we will explore these challenges in depth and discuss solutions to improve access to clinical trials.
